Antiques and collectables for the discerning collector
Sell Your Treasures
Ogled Antiques are pleased to offer 3 ways to sell your treasures, therefore it is up to you what is the most suitable.
1. Commission Basis
In today's world you can sell your antiques through auction (made popular by TV programmes) where you pay the auctioneer around 20% plus VAT on the hammer price and on top of this, the buyer has to pay a premium up to 30% plus VAT on the hammer price. This means that the auction house takes circa 40% plus in commission. To me this is crazy.
Most items at auction often sell for well below their commercial value or do not sell. Once an item has not sold at auction, this can damage its future value as people like to buy items new to the market and not items seen before. So beware.
As items are often bought by dealers, the dealer has to make a profit, (its their living) after auction house commissions. Don't be surprised if you see your item being sold in a dealers shop or website at 2.5 to 5 times the price you achieved at auction.
With Ogled Antiques you can sell your treasures on commission basis at full market price, not the auction price, meaning that you can often achieve significantly more than the amount you would normally get from auction.
To be fair to auctions, if you have a unique item, that many people would desire, at any price, then you could be better of selling your item through auction. If this was the likely case and based on our experience, Ogled Antiques would, where possible, advise you to sell the item at auction and where possible we would recommend the best one for you at no charge. We can't say fairer than that.
Item Sold on Commission Basis
Ogled Antiques will take professional pictures and list your item on the Ogled Antiques website. Once sold Ogled Antiques will charge you a flat commission subject to the price achieved. Please contact Ogled Antiques for the commission payable upon sale of your item.
All items that are being sold on your behalf will be retained by Ogled Antiques and will be insured for the agreed sales price less the commission due upon sale.
Alternatively, Ogled Antiques Could Purchase Your Treasure Outright
2. Outright Purchase
Ogled may purchase the item at a mutually agreeable price directly from you upon viewing of the goods. This price will be lower than what could be achieved by selling your item on commission as Ogled Antiques has to pay hard cash, make a profit at the point of sale, allowing for the fact that the item could be sold one day later, years later or never.
3. Private Treaty
Some sellers may not want an item to be listed, therefore Ogled Antiques offer a discrete service to sell the item on behalf of the vendor to know customers/contacts and will charge a mutually agreed amount for this service.
All items that are being sold on your behalf will be retained by Ogled Antiques and will be insured for the agreed sales price less the commission due upon sale.
