Ogled Antiques take a fine interest in Collectors Coins. We currently have for sale a Royal Mint 1980 Gold Proof Set.
The Royal Mint is a UK Limited Company, wholly owned by the Her Majestys Treasury with an exclusive contract to mint all coins in the UK.
This company has roots that go back over 1000 years. However, it has been operating since 2010 as Royal Mint Ltd, located at Llantrisant, Wales and owned by HM Treasury. It works under an exclusive contract to supply to the UK with all her coins. It also manufactures coins and medals internationally, including 4700 medals for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The Royal Mint issued a gold proof set in 1980 for the first time since the year 1937. In 1937, this set was created for the Coronation of George VI. Such a set was also produced in 1953 as well for the Coronation of Elizabeth II. These were very few in number and weren't available for sale to collectors or available in the markets at all. The 1980s set is the first issued in more than 60 years and the fourth of the 20th century.

This set has Queen Elizabeth II's second portrait on one side, designed by Arnold Machin. The famous portrayal of a dragon being slain by St. George by Benedetto Pistrucci is depicted on the reverse side. This set comes in its Royal Mint presentation case.
