August Müller was a highly accomplished 19th century German genre artist. He was born in Rottweil, Germany on 13 June 1836, and twenty years later he was a student under the noted German artist H Rustige at the School of the Arts in Stuttgart.
In 1865, Müller set out for Munich and was able to establish his reputation as a top artist during his time. Over the next twenty years he exhibited in many of the top galleries in Munich, Dresden, and Hanover, Germany. Müller died in Munich in 1885, less than a year before his 50th birthday.
