Rare Kingwood Table Clock circa 1695/1700

A rare 17th century quarter repeating bracket clock in superb kingwood veneered case.
The movement with verge escapement and pull quarter repeat with a beautifully engraved backplate of foliage. Signed on the dial with apertures for false pendulum and calendar, strike/silent lever, ringed winding squares and delicate fine hands.

Henry Massy (1664 - 1720) worked in Charles Street London and was a member of the Clockmakers' Company from 1692 until 1745. His father was Nicolas (II) Massy, born in Blois, France and had come to London as a refugee where he worked in Cranbourn Street. Father and son Massy were descendants of Nicolas (I) Massy, an outstanding and renowned watchmaker in Blois who became a Master in 1623.
