George III Sugar and Creamer Pails
by Thomas Daniell

Description:

A unique opportunity to own the Rolls Royce of sugar and creamer pails produced by Thomas Daniell 1774.
This fine and rare pair represents the pinnacle of design.  Both hallmarked pails stand on a pedestal base with ball feet, egg and dart, acanthus leaves and fine beading, supporting a pierced helmet shaped pail with swags and plaques on opposite sides, beading to the top rim and swing handles (individually hallmarked with the lion passant and makers initials) with fine beading. Both pieces have their blue glass inserts.  The unique part of these pails is the plaques, the creamer pail has 2 plaques, one showing a milk maid and 2 cows, the other plaque on the opposite side showing a winged cherub supporting a shield with the engraved initials JPS in a garden with a tree in the foreground and a house to the rear.  The sugar pail plaques show a couple seated at a tripod table in a room where the lady is serving tea to her companion, the reverse plaque shows the same as the creamer plaque (a winged cherub supporting a shield with the engraved initials JPS in a garden with a tree in the foreground and a house to the rear).

Sugar pail silver weight:  8.88oz, height to rim 14 cm, to handle 20.5 cm, diameter 11 cm
Creamer pail silver weight 5.18 oz, height to rim 11.5 cm, height to handle 16.5 cm, diameter 8.3 cm

These very rare pair of pails, both in wonderful condition would be a great addition to any collection.
